“LOUIS could’ve been the poster child for what to do right,” she said. “But it’s just an old project that isn’t exciting or sexy. It’s just library data.”

House Speaker Jim Tucker, R-Terrytown, said he is interested in finding dollars.

“It’s a cost-saving measure and it’s one that universities use significantly,” Tucker said Monday about LOUIS. “That’s one thing I’m very interested in trying to restore funding for … if we can.”

RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LOUIS, THE LOUISIANA LIBRARY NETWORK

Unanimously Approved by UNO University Senate February 28, 2011

WHEREAS, LOUIS, the Louisiana Library Network, provides essential information resources and services that contribute to the success of our university and college students and faculty through a consortium of 47 member libraries;

WHEREAS, These essential resources and services include the UNO Library automation system and catalog of the library collections, electronic research databases and full-text journals, remote access to library resources 24/7 through authentication of users, Interlibrary loan and reciprocal borrowing among all member libraries, and the Louisiana Digital Library, as well as centralized servers and an expert support staff;
